Xenical as an Alternative to Surgery

The obesity problem is a continuing issue in many countries worldwide due to the fact that people are increasingly living a lifestyle that involves more calorie consumption and less exercise.  This has led to some people considering extreme options to deal with their weight problems, and one of the most extreme is gastric surgery.

Xenical works by blocking the action of an enzyme called lipase, which is responsible for the breaking down of fat so that your body can absorb it.  By blocking this enzyme, a large amount of the fat you consume will pass through you without being absorbed.

The drug is prescribed along with a low calorie diet, and it has been shown to be both an effective and safe treatment in the vast majority of patients.  All surgery carries an inherent risk and side effects are common; but treatment with Xenical is a far safer option.  It is currently the safest diet drug on the market; this means that doctors are more likely to recommend it over surgery in all but the most extreme cases of obesity.
