STD facts – Syphilis
In many peoples’ minds syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease that was a problem in Victorian times and is no longer something to worry about. Well it was a problem in then but more importantly it is still a disease that is prevalent in women of 20 to 24 years of age and in men 35 to 39 years of age.
Many people infected with syphilis do not have any symptoms for years, yet remain at risk for late complications if they are not treated. For this reason it is important that you should arrange an STD test if you think you may have been in contact with a person suffering the infection. Syphilis is easy to cure in its early stage which another good reason to have a test for syphilis if you are sexually active with multiple partners. With modern medication and antibiotics, effective treatment is available to cure the infected person, it is important that persons be screened for syphilis on an on-going basis if their sexual behaviours put them at risk for STDs.
