Keeping an eye on childhood illnesses
Once the kids are back to school, the colds, coughs, fevers, aches and pains start. Most of the childhood illnesses are normal and can be easily treated with a dose of Calpol and lots of cuddles. However, there are the very rare occasions when you just know something isn’t right and further help is required. Before you call your child doctor London, check for the following important symptoms:
Is your child suffering from a high temperature? Keep a close eye on this and if it goes over 38 degrees then monitor it closely. Normal body temperature should be between 36-36.8C (96.8-98.2F). If your child has a temperature they will appear flushed, hot and sweaty.
Does your child have a rash? Do the glass test by rolling a glass across the rash. If it doesn’t disappear under pressure, seek emergency help immediately.
Is your child is having difficulty breathing? If so then seek emergency help immediately.
Is your child complaining of a headache, pain in the eyes when exposed to light, confusion, drowsiness or a stiff neck? If so then seek emergency help immediately.
Did your child have a seizure or fit before developing the temperature? If so then seek emergency help immediately.
