No city is immune form the sexually transmitted infection Chlamydia, and Birmingham is no exception. Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by the bacterium chlamydia trachomatis. In the UK, the number of new diagnoses has been steadily increasing each year since the mid-1990s, and it has now become the most commonly diagnosed STI.
Chlamydia is a serious disease and if left untreated can lead to Pelvic Inflammatory Disease in Women, Ectopic Pregnancy, Infertility, amongst others. Anyone in Birmingham can have a simple test at one of the three clinics, the City Centre, Solihull and Knowle and Edgbaston. The test is simple and the sooner it is diagnosed the quicker treatment can begin.
