Gonorrhoea is a sexually transmitted disease (STD). The infection is caused by a bacterium that can grow and multiply easily in the warm, moist areas of the reproductive tract, including the cervix, the uterus, and fallopian tubes in women, and in the urethra in women and men. The bacterium can also grow in the mouth, throat, eyes, and anus and is a very common infectious disease.

Gonorrhoea is spread through contact with the penis, vagina, mouth, or anus. Ejaculation does not have to occur for gonorrhoea to be transmitted or acquired. It can also be spread from mother to baby during delivery. People who have had gonorrhoea and received treatment may get infected again if they have sexual contact with a person infected with this sexually transmitted infection. Getting treatment quickly is important and those who consider that they may have been infected, or for those sexually active with multiple partners should arrange for an STD test at one of the many STD test centres in London and the provinces.

Arranging for an STD test in London or any of the other major cities in the UK, Manchester or Birmingham for instance, is easy and all tests are completely confidential and you may remain anonymous if preferred. Take action quickly if you have any suspicions that you may have become infected.

Although small when compared with Asia and sub-Saharan Africa, recent evidence shows increasing rates of HIV transmission in a number of European countries, particularly among men who have sex with men. The number of people living with HIV who are unaware of their status is alarmingly high and many people are diagnosed with HIV at a late stage, reducing the likelihood of treatment success.

To minimise the risk to yourself if you suspect that you may have HIV, or have had sex man on man, is to take an STD test. These tests are carried out at a number of centres throughout London and all other major cities in the UK such as Manchester and Birmingham.  The test is very simple and is carried out in complete confidence, anonymously if preferred, with the result given to you within a few hours. The quicker you know the result the sooner treatment can begin.

An STD test is a medical test for the presence of a sexually transmitted disease or infection (STI) or (STD). STD tests may test for a single infection, or consist of a number of individual tests for any of a wide range of sexually transmitted infections which includes; tests for syphilis, gonorrhoea, Chlamydia, Herpes, hepatitis and HIV.

Many STD’s may shown no outward symptoms, or they may not appear immediately, in some instances a disease can be carried with no outward symptoms, which leaves a greater risk of passing the disease on to others. This emphasises the importance of practising safe sex such as caution in selecting partners. At the first sign of any problems, or if you think that you may have had sexually contact with a person who is infected, you should arrange an STD test so treatment can be commenced.
